First Impressions: Tatcha Violet-C Brightening Serum

Not jumping the gun with a full review quite yet, but I thought I'd share my initial impression of the new @tatcha violet-c brightening serum* in the past month. It was a pretty big launch, so odds are you've heard/read a bit about it already, but if not it's a 20% vitamin c serum that also has 10% AHAs. I'd previously never combined those two before, preferring to use a vitamin c serum in the morning, and an acid at night, mostly because chemical exfoliating causes increased light sensitivity. As such, this serum is only to be used at night, which presented a bit of a scheduling conflict for me when it came to retinol. Even though I've been using retinol 2-3 nights a week for about six weeks, I'm still wary about combining them with acids (which can be done, but may also irritate) and usually opt to exfoliate on a different night. I made sure to space out this serum and my retinol nights at first, which proved successful, so now alternating between the two isn't a problem. I like the thin, watery consistency, as it absorbs well, and that it's packaged as a pump (as opposed to a dropper) which will prevent it from oxygenating as quickly. As far as its effects, I do think it helps with brightness, but I don't really have many dark spots, so I can't say much to that. The other big flag is the price, at $88 it is definitely expensive, more so than any other vitamin c serum I've used. I can see how it's appealing in that it does a lot at once, so perhaps in that case it's worth the cost. I'm a huge fan of Tatcha, and the violet-c radiance mask is one of my favorites, so I trust that it's high quality, if not a bit pricey.
